New Look, New Plan – Let the Revolution Begin!

2019… when this year began I had huge hopes for where life would take me. Whether it was for my family, my life, my career – even this blog. My thoughts were racing with the amazing things that I was going to accomplish, the memories I was going to make and the feelings/experiences I would share with you, my readers.

Of course, much like anything else in life God, Karma or whatever deity interferes in life had many other plans.

With any year, we hope that we won’t but inevitably we lose loved ones throughout the year. It is shocking to me though, the number of loved ones that I have lost this year. We are not even six months through the year and already I don’t feel as whole as I did when the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve. The first three months of this year were more darkness than light. The hardest loss of all of these was my sweet niece who was only 4 ½ months old when we lost her. This beautiful little angel was sent to my family, and she is one of the biggest reasons why I decided to re-launch this blog.

Out of respect for my family, any information that I share will be very vague. When my niece came into this world in October 2018, she became one of the brightest lights in my life. Between her, and my nephew (her big brother) I knew that not only did I want to be their favorite Aunt, but I also wanted to be the best possible version of myself so that I could be someone they could look up to.

This little angel, or Unicorn Princess, as we called her though perfect in our eyes we knew she would have challenges as she was born with a congenital heart defect and down syndrome. The first 7 weeks of her life were spent in the NICU of the hospital she was born in. In fact, the greatest Christmas gift that we received last year was that a few days before Christmas, she was able to come home.

Fast forward a few more weeks/months and lots of great pictures to the month of March. My niece went into the hospital to have open heart surgery to fix her heart. The surgery went well but a few days after there were some complications that arose that didn’t improve and one week after her surgery our unicorn princess, our little Irish angel got her wings for real.

I’ve never lost a loved one who was so young and that I had never had the chance to meet. Even with all of that in mind, this sweet little angel lit a fire in my soul and instead of focusing on the pain I am going to make the beauty and purity of my niece the inspiration for the new path of this blog.

When I started this blog three years ago I wanted to share my love of things that made me a bit geeky. Parts of myself that no matter how geeky they were I still loved those parts of me, hence the blog’s name. Now, not only do I want to share those parts of myself, I want to really connect with you, my readers, and the geeky things you love! Whether it’s food, travel, superheroes, books – you name it and I want to connect with you on.

However, In addition to those parts of what this blog is all about I also want to raise and bring awareness to the good that can still be done in the world today. There is so much anger and hate, that love and giving back needs even more of a platform. Therefore, inspired and dedicated to my beautiful niece, each month I will be doing a #SpotlightSunday post. This post will put the spotlight on a charity, non-profit, or initiative that provides to the enhancing and bettering the lives of not just one person, but the world and all our lives.

So stay tuned for that post this coming Sunday! If there is a topic you want me to write about or if you’re interested in being a blogger or writer and want to be a guest blogger here – I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!!

Just send me an email and we can be partners in this journey of all things geeky and giving back! I want LoveGeekyMe to grow this year and I don’t want it to just be a blog people read every once in a while. I want LoveGeekyMe to be a community where we can lift each other up and make the world around us a better place.

So be yourself, be a little geeky and let’s make a difference!
