I’m sorry I missed posting last week – as it turns out my normal posting day was also my birthday! So for today’s quote I had a very different quote in mind to use, that had one of my favorite Disney characters on it, but then as I was going through Facebook, I came to the page of one of my favorite life coaches, Matthew Hussey, and he shared this:
Now his caption with this image was “Whatever you’re doing today, push yourself that tiny bit more. It will lead to magic 6 months down the line…”.
Now before even seeing this post from Matthew, I have been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone, I am not totally success full right now, but I have made some progress in pushing my insecurities aside and letting my inner awesomeness shine. The great thing about this quote, is that it doesn’t tell me that if I want to better myself I have to make drastic changes all in one day – instead, it just says a little extra.
So if, like me, you have some insecurities or social anxieties that are holding you back, don’t feel like you have to go out and be the most open and confident person and that you have to be a social butterfly – trust me that will only make the anxiety worse. Instead, start small, if you make eye contact with someone in the coffee shop, smile and say good morning to them, or if you are getting in the elevator or climbing the stairs at work and you pass some one, a simple acknowledgement of a smile or “good morning” will not only get your day off to a good start, but it could brighten the other person’s day.
And each day, just do that little bit extra – maybe one day this week or this month, instead of eating your lunch at your desk eating and working at the same time, go to the lounge or cafeteria. I know that sitting by yourself can be a little awkward, so if there is a co-worker you have become friends with, invite them with you – take that time to talk to someone about things other than work. You may find that you have more in common with your coworkers outside the office.
How about we make a pact Readers, I will try to do a little bit extra everyday, to help overcome my insecurities, idiosyncrasies, and social anxieties – and you can to… and maybe not every day, but once a week, I will post about what I have done and how I feel about it… deal?
Till next time Readers!!
